Martha Garfield

Martha_Garfield-headshot-1I have been an educator for almost 20 years and in 2018, I earned the designation of Certified Educational Planner, which is awarded to those who have achieved the highest level of competence in educational planning. I am one of fewer than 300 educational consultants nationwide who hold that distinction. I have worked with students from middle school through college as a teacher, advisor and mentor. Before becoming an independent educational consultant, I worked for 7 years as the Director of College Counseling at a small independent high school on the coast of Maine where I worked with US students and with students from around the world including China, Korea, Japan, Turkey, Italy, and France. I encourage students to take ownership of the college application process as I guide them in every step. My approach is student centered and I specialize in helping students find the best college fit academically, socially, and financially.

My experience includes:

  • Advising students and families through the college application process
  • Working with families on financial aid (FAFSA, CSS Profile, scholarships)
  • Reviewing and editing essays
  • Teaching English composition at the university level
  • Working with international students
  • Working with first generation students
